Let’s talk about OKRs & KPIs. I know...it sounds horrendous! But man-o-man is it worth tracking these little f*#!ers.
I don’t know about you, but for us it’s really easy to get caught-up in the day-to-day of business, scurrying around in the weeds and getting easily distracted by the shiny and new. *oh look! Shiny!!
OKRs and KPIs might seem annoying or take tonnes of your time but woweee we’ve found them so helpful this year…and oddly enough, kind of fun, and not all that time consuming.
We set out five 6-month goals that helped us stay on track to our North Star. Every time we started to get lost in the schparkle of a new thing we were able to look at our OKRs and KPIs and would bring us back to the question of “does this help us meet our 5 goals in some way?”…if it didn’t, it got backburnered.
We ended up surpassing two of our goals (by a lot!), meeting one, and are now working on how to course correct for the other two (they were close, but no cigar). If we hadn’t measured along the way, we wouldn’t have known where we needed to focus our attention.
Using these metrics to help keep you on track and focussed on the work you need to accomplish makes all the difference. Set achievable goals that are specific to your ultimate needs as a business.
